HULU

ILLUSTRATION  |  INSTALLATION | SOCIAL CAMPAIGN

Among many examples of different types of inequality in the United States is the disparity between male and female representation. Throughout history, countless womxn have help shaped our country by fighting toward equality and freedom, leading their communities. Unfortunately, many of their stories and achievements go unknown or uncelebrated in the present day. CNN’s brand studio Courageous Studios and Hulu teamed up to present a statue installation to bring attention to Women’s Equality Day and needed an illustrator to help bring that vision to life. They turned to The Women Who Draw, a database of womxn illustrators meant to elevate talent in an industry where the same disparity exists, and contacted me to work with.

The installation called ‘Shape the Future’ was initially set up in New York City’s Flatiron Plaza — unveiling 140 mirrored statues (the number of statues needed for equal men to women representation in the city) marking the beginning of Season 3 of the Handsmaid’s Tale on Hulu. Based on the tremendous response in New York, Hulu decided to expand the campaign and the missing statue initiative was taken to other major cities (Atlanta, San Francisco, Boston) on Women’s Equality Day. Each installation was met with just as much engagement and social buzz.
